Generate On-Brand Assets With Canva Magic Studio
For Brand Managers ·
What This Does
Small, repeatable creative requests, a set of social tiles, a one-page sell sheet for a retail buyer, often sit in a design queue behind bigger projects even though they should take minutes. Canva's Magic Studio generates a first draft of these assets from a short text prompt, and once your brand kit is set up, applies your brand's colors, fonts, and logo automatically so the draft already looks like it belongs to your brand instead of a generic template.
Before You Start
- A Canva account with access to Magic Studio features (availability depends on your plan; check Canva's pricing page for which tier includes the AI design tools you need)
- Your brand assets ready to upload once: logo files, brand color codes, and approved fonts
- Five minutes to set up the Brand Kit before your first Magic Design request, if your team has not done this already
Steps
1. Set up your Brand Kit once
In Canva, find Brand Kit under your account or team settings and upload your logo, brand colors, and fonts. This is a one-time setup per brand. Once it is saved, every Magic Design request and template can pull from it automatically instead of you manually recoloring each asset.
2. Open Magic Design and describe the asset
Inside the editor, click the Design tab on the left sidebar and type a prompt into the search bar describing what you need, for example a social tile or a sell sheet. If you are starting from the Canva homepage instead, use the search and AI bar, select Canva AI, then "Design for me." Magic Design generates a first draft based on your description.
3. Apply your Brand Kit and refine
Once you have a draft you like, apply your Brand Kit so the colors, fonts, and logo placement match your other assets automatically. Swap out any stock image or generic copy for your actual product shot and messaging, then adjust layout details by hand until it is ready to export or hand off for review.
Real Example
Scenario: Marketing wants five social tiles announcing a new flavor launch by end of day, and the design team is buried in a bigger campaign.
What you type: "Generate five social tiles announcing our new flavor launch, bold and appetite-appealing, sized for Instagram."
What you get: Five draft tiles with layout and imagery already in place. You apply the Brand Kit so the colors and fonts match the rest of the campaign, drop in the actual product photo and launch date, and export.
Tips
- Describe the mood or purpose of the asset, not just its type. "Bold, appetite-appealing social tile" returns a more useful draft than "social tile"
- Save a strong Magic Design result as a template if you expect to need similar assets again next month. Reusing a template is faster than writing the same prompt twice
- Magic Design drafts are a starting point for routine, low-stakes assets. Anything going to print, to a major retailer, or carrying a product claim should still go through your usual design and legal review
Keep unreleased product names, pricing decisions, and unpublished campaign plans out of any prompt you type into a personal or team Canva account, since a consumer Canva subscription is not the sanctioned place for that kind of confidential information. If your organization needs AI tools to see that material before launch, that belongs inside your company's approved Microsoft 365 tenant (where Copilot lives under your organization's data agreement), not a standalone Canva login.
Tool interfaces change. If Magic Design is not where this guide describes, look for a "Magic" or "AI" label near the Design tab in the left sidebar, or in the homepage search bar.
